Leaving Home

My last entry for this journey. Sad I know, well, it is for me at least. I have had so much fun. So many adventures. And met so many great people.

But all things have a cycle. And this one has ended. It of course just carries on with new set adventures, a new cycle. Just ones on a more familar ground and back drop.

My plan from here is to be back in Melbourne and go back to work. I also need to find somewhere to live. Don’t think they will let me live out if my rented storage space. But a solution will present it’s self. It always does.

So for now … I will stop pestering you all with enourmous long posts about random things I have been doing. Hopefully over the following months I will put up a heap more photos. I have like 6000 or more to sort through. So it may take awhile.

Anyways, I shall finish this off with a few words … as thought of by the G.

Scratching A Massacre

Had wicked Friday night at Club Asia in Shibuya watching 3 of the wickedest DJ’s tear it up on decks. Big thanks to Tetsu for not only getting me in but doing it in style with back stage addmittance. DJ Crazy B, DJ Kentaro and DJ Craze made a mess of that place.

False Alarm

Ok, so I may have exagerated my situation a little. I do actually have a backup plan for this exact scenario. At first though I did not think about it. I kind of just thought … “damn .. i’m totally f’d” … Once I stopped (and figured out where I was), I then thought about my options. This was when I remembered my secound account with another bank. So I headed back to the hostel, dug deep into my pack and brought forth my saviour. Withdrawing from the bowels of my enourmous pack a flaming, brightly lit key card of awesome power. I headed straight to the nearest ATM and BOOYAH! … instant salvation.

I then headed out and got thoroughly drunk in celebration.

Thanks for all the concern though. I was actually little bit worried for while about what I was going to do. But there are always options. After all, this Japan. I probably could have found someone that would have helped my out of my little jam even if I did not have my backup plan.

I am still a bit concerned as to why I can’t access my main account though and do still need to sort that out.

Anyways, for now I am all good and set to head back to Tokyo and spend my 6 days in Japan. Boooooooooo! It should be longer.

Stuck & Lost in Kyoto

So it’s finally happened. I am officially stuck in Kyoto with no way of getting back to Tokyo, unless of course there is some miracle fix for my current denial of access to my remaining funds. It seems for the time being that my credit card is not accepted any where and niether is bank card. The reason being I cannot find out exactly what the issue is, I don’t speak enough Japanese and the people trying to explain to me don’t speak enough English.

Now I am not one to start complaining about my situation. It was bound to happen eventually and … well … hey I could be stuck in a much, much worse place. I actually really Kyoto. It’s the reason I came back for another visit. I may not like Kyoto so much after a few nights on the street because I can’t afford to stay in a hostel anymore though.

Also, in my mad dash to find somewhere I know my card normally works. I manage to make a few too many twists and turns and got myself thoroughly disorientated. It took me about 20mins to finally figure out where I was. Somehow I had managed to walk a good 2km away from the store where it all started. I also managed to miss about 5 or 6 separate places my card should work by being one street over at every zig-zag I made. Absolute classic case of Murphy’s law if I ever experienced it.

As it stands I have enough cash to stay a few nights where I am. So that should buy me enough time to get it sorted out. After that … if you don’t here from me. You can pass on to the authorites that my body can be found starved and frozen stiff in a Kyoto gutter somewhere.

Broken Silence

Well I have been pretty silent on here of late. In all honesty I have done very little in last week and certainly nothing really worth writing about.

A couple of things happened, I bought a wicked watch … that probably confuses more then helps when wanting to know the time. The other notable activity was I finally got a fly kick in Tokyo. I had one of the girls at the Ninja hostel take the photo for me and she did a teriffic job.

Apart from that I did stuff all. Just lazed about and mucked around with a few photos. Some of which you may have seen if you are my friend on face book.

Today I decided to head to Kyoto. Figured I would laze about there for a few days then spend the final few days back in Tokyo. It’s so sad that my time here is coming to an end. I don’t want to leave ….

*wipes away a tear*

Futuristic Time

Bought a new friend today. I needed a new watch as my old watch died on the farm last time I was in Japan. I was just keeping my out for one the grabbed my attention. And this one certainly did.

Busy Little Kobe

So Kobe is an interesting little city. It’s packed tight like a can sardines in the centre. But as soon as you leave that, only one or two stations away it’s like a ghost town. Barely seeming inhabited. I did, on my second night here, discover why the centre was so busy. In 1995 there was a tragic event. An earthquake struck japan with most it’s impact on the port of Kobe. So many injured and so many people left homeless and their biggest source of income, the port, left in ruins. Every year since then, as a sign of hope and messege saying “we will prevail”, the city sets up this street with huge illuminated arch ways. With a large lit up display at one end. This event goes on for a few weeks and attracts thousands upon thousands of people every night. At the end there is a host of food stalls which is not unlike the scene in ‘Spirited Away’ where the mother and father eat themselves into pigs. Which you could easily do as the food was so nice.

During the day before this, I wandered the city. Most of my time was spent at the port and the memorial park they had built in recognition of the earthquake that had left so much devastation.

Oh one thing I forgot to mention about the illuminated arches. They block streets and streets that lead up to them to accomodate the influx of pedestrians. Funny thing is though, the site that every one comes to see is very much concentrated in one place. But the streets that they block off, and that you have to walk through to get there, are a maze of laps that take you in circles around the city. So your stuck in this barricaded pathway, a bit like a bull run, only your moving at a shuffle like pace in a doledrum instead of beating your way along the path in fear for your life. It was worth it though.

With about 2 weeks to go and one day left on my last JR pass. I decided to head back to Tokyo. From there I will probably just wander the streets aimlessly looking for quirky Japanese wonderfulness. Funds are running a little low so I won’t able to travel too far by train and I may have to skip a meal here and there. But what can say. I have had a blast and will be back next year for snowboarding.

But instead to Osaka I was sent
I made my way to lost and found
Spoke briefly to the guard

What he was doing I could not be certain

But sure enough when he returned
With him he carried
The thing I most yearned
Brown and crumpled
But there he sat
On the desk in front of me

Lost Friends

Today I lost a friend
I thought we would stay together till the end
But Alas, it was not meant to be
My poor friend is lost to me

He covered my ears
When the winter chill was strong
He kept me company
On the lonely streets I walked along
He kept my head warm
Where my hair no longer did
He stayed in line on my forehead
To keep the sun at bay
And to all the passing hats
He would tip and say G’Day

I lost my poor friend today
He stayed there on the hook
Just inside the train
As I departed at Shin-Kobe
I stood there as the train left
And there my friend sat
I waved a little goodbye
A single tear in my eye
I will miss my dear friend
